Some people believe that product testing on animals is always an erroneous practice. Most companies that distribute cosmetic or chemical based products are required by the government to test their products on animals before placing them in stores as merchandise. According to a newspaper article published in the Washington Post, before each batch of products is shipped, the manufacturer puts it through one of the oldest and most controversial animal tests available.
Many companies, including Allergan Inc., must perform these tests to check the potency of its product under federal safety rules. Another concern is the slow pace of government efforts to replace or reduce the large numbers of animals used by pharmaceutical companies, chemical manufacturers and consumer firms to ensure that their products are safe for people. This population of believers hopes that the government will soon take action in stopping the use of living animals to test products that can be harmful and even lethal to them.
The assemblage of community that believes animal testing is reprehensible feels this way because innocent animals are being used for testing without their consent. These animals are living creatures just as human beings, and also deserve the right to decline the tests if they desire to.
Even though they are unable to speak their concerns, it is often clear through their gestures whether or not they want to participate in the research. This same group of people also agrees that there are alternative ways of testing cosmetic and chemical products, and therefore, animal testing is not at all necessary. Not only can product testing kill and harm animals, but it is often a poor predicator of human results. If the testing on animals offers results that do not even reflect the effects on humans, than there is no point in testing the products on animals. At this point, the testing is cruel. It seems that testing on animals is just happening to do it, not necessarily for the human benefits.
